Scent Work is a sport that mimics the task of working detection dogs (e.g. explosives or narcotics) to locate a scent and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. One dog and one handler form a team. The dogs must find a hidden target odour, such as birch or anise, often ignoring distractors. Scent work requires team work, focus, training and a dog who loves to learn. It is a relatively new sport in Australia and one we only started to train for in 2021. We had our first competition in May 2022. Due to the popularity of the sport it can be hard to get into the limited competitions in Australia.
